One Day Culinary Tour In Kudus

Kudus, who is not familiar with the regency which is full of stories and traces of the spread of Islamic teachings introduced by Sunan Kudus and Sunan Muria? Kudus, located east of Semarang, is also known as the city of kretek, where Kudus is considered the beginning of the development of kretek cigarettes. Even now there are still a number of national cigarette companies that are actively producing there.

In addition to having a rich historical and cultural story, Kudus is also blessed by a variety of unique foods that shake the tongue. Most of the dishes that use buffalo meat raw materials are unique there. Even with the ease of distance and time to hunt the typical foods of Kudus in the middle of the city it becomes fun for tourists who are stopping in Kudus. Then what can be tasted in the Holy City for one day?

Moeria Milk
Exactly at Jalan Pemuda no. 64, Panjunan, Kota Kudus, there is a milking place for cows whose milk can be enjoyed directly there. If lucky, visitors can also see first hand the process of dairy cows whose cages are next to a serving table and cashier. Various flavors of milk are available at Milking Milk from 6am to late afternoon. The price of a glass of cow's milk varies depending on the desired taste, starting from IDR 4,500, for fresh milk, up to IDR 11,000 for Chocolate Honey Egg Milk. Snacks and wet cakes placed in front of the cashier's table can be friends to drink milk there.

Lentog Tanjung
After starting breakfast with fresh Moeria milk, don't miss the typical Kudus breakfast called Lentog Tanjung. Lentog is a large rice cake that characterizes the rice cake in Kudus. Lentog slices will be equipped with side dishes made from young jackfruit or gori, but different from warm. The young jackfruit chopped is rather soft then cooked with coconut milk sauce that has been given chili and other seasonings. Also equipped with tofu and chili lodeh if you want a more spicy taste.
Initially this dish developed in the Tanjung Karang area, therefore it is more familiarly called by the citizens of Kudus by the name of Lentog Tanjung. In the Tanjung Karang complex, sellers start peddling the Tanjung Lentog starting from 6 to 10 am. The price is cheap, only IDR 4,000 per portion. Oh yes, Tanjung Lentog stall is also easily found along Jalan R. Agil Kusumadya (around Wisma Haji), Kudus.

Nasi Opor Sunggingan
Not to be missed also the Sunggingan Opor Rice, located at Jalan Nitisemito no.9, Sunggingan, Kudus City. Shredded chicken that has been baked perfectly cooked will be placed on warm white rice. Then poured thick gravy on top. After that, it is complemented with delicious tofu fried chili sauce. The seller there will offer a cutlery or folds of banana leaves as a spoon. If in doubt, can take the usual tablespoon that has been provided at the table. Savory coconut milk mixed with the sweetness of successful roasted chicken meat shake your tongue in the morning.

Soto Kerbau
Not bad if you stop by Kudus but have not taken the time to taste Soto Kerbau, said some friends. There are several food stalls and restaurants that provide Soto Kebo or soto that uses buffalo meat. One of the places I've visited is Warung Pak Ramidjan, located at Jl. Raya Kudus-Jepara no.79A, Kudus. They have two mainstay menus, namely Soto Ayam Kudus and Soto Kebo. Basically the Soto Kebo Kudus broth is clear with spices of onion, garlic, candlenut, laos to suck broth broth that is boiled along with sliced buffalo meat.
Not without reason why almost no one sells beef in Kudus and they replace it with buffalo meat. This was preceded by a policy that was put forward by Sunan Kudus when he spread the teachings of Islam in Kudus. To honor citizens who still adhere to Hinduism, he advised his followers not to consume beef. From there all the offerings that were originally using beef were replaced with buffalo meat. This practice has been carried out until now, proof that religious tolerance has been taught by religious leaders since ancient times.

Nasi Pindang Kudus
Besides Soto Kudus, Pindang Kudus can also be a choice for lunch at Kudus. The famous Pindang Kudus rice vendor is Mr. H. Sulichan's Warung, located in Bojana Park (next to the Ramayana Simpang Tujuh). There are two choices of pindang offered there, Pindang Ayam or Pindang Kerbau. The broth at a glance is similar to East Java-style rawon because it has a slightly blackish color. Candlenut, coriander, ginger, and mashed kencur add to the taste of Pindang Kudus broth. Not to forget sprinkled with melinjo leaves and of course sliced buffalo meat that has been cooked until the texture of the meat is soft.

Sate Kerbau
One more processed buffalo meat that should not be missed, namely Buffalo Sate. There is a satay stall located next to the Holy Mosque which always looks crowded after sunset. The smoke from the process of burning meat that rises out of the tent is simply spreading an appetizing odor every evening until the evening. Warung Sate Kerbau Menara is a place to eat which is arguably popular for hunters of kebo kebo or buffalo satay in Kudus. With the right meat maturity added with peanut sauce that has been mixed with grated grated coconut or serundeng as its mainstay.
While in other stalls, Jalan Kepodang or often called Gang Tiga also has Sate Kebo which is equally delicious. In addition they also provide Buffalo Soup with clear soup which is suitable if eaten together with satay and peanut sauce. One plate of ten buffalo meat skewers has a starting price of Rp. 25,000.

Tahu Telur
The night is getting late does not mean all places to eat in the Holy City are closed all. Stalls selling tofu eggs actually still survive until dawn along Jalan Sunan Kudus, Kudus City. Tofu Egg is one of Kudus's special dishes which is quite filling with a portion of one plate containing tofu that has been crushed and mixes it with a beaten egg and stir it on a pan. After the tofu is ripe, they will pour it with soy sauce that has been added with chili peppers and fried peanuts. There is also Gimbal Tofu whose contents are more or less the same, with the differentiator Gimbal or shrimp project called the citizens of Kudus.

How to Is there enough variety of dishes to enjoy from morning to dawn in the Holy City? Let's be chosen and don't regret it if you go on vacation to the Holy City and again miss the temptation of the food list that has been written above. (Halim Santoso)
