Central Java Strengthens Global Tourism Promotion At The Bali & Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) 2026

The Provincial Government of Central Java, through its Department of Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, has once again demonstrated its commitment to expanding the international tourism market by participating in the Bali & Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) 2026, held from May 28–30, 2026. Through the Visit Central Java booth, this participation serves as a strategic step to strengthen the promotion of key destinations while opening broader access to global markets.

As part of this participation, the Central Java Provincial Government facilitated tourism industry players from the region to engage in the Travel Exchange (Travex) program with buyers from various countries. This initiative is part of Central Java’s tourism marketing strategy to increase international tourist arrivals while expanding business networks within the regional tourism industry.

BBTF 2026 is one of the largest business-to-business (B2B) tourism events in Indonesia, bringing together tourism sellers and buyers from around the world. Through the pre-scheduled appointment (PSA) mechanism, participants are given the opportunity to conduct direct and measurable business meetings with potential partners.

During BBTF 2026, Central Java sellers successfully conducted approximately 80 business meetings with buyers from both domestic and international markets, including Southeast Asia, East Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East.

International buyers showed strong interest in Central Java’s leading destinations, particularly Borobudur (Magelang), Karimunjawa, Solo Raya, and the City of Semarang. Several buyers also expressed interest in an integrated tour package titled “Java Experience”, which combines these four destinations into a single यात्रा itinerary. This package offers a comprehensive experience, ranging from cultural and historical tourism to gastronomy, marine tourism, and community-based experiences.

The Borobudur area remains a major attraction for international markets, offering a complete tourism experience that includes world cultural heritage, spiritual tourism, village tourism, special interest tourism, as well as gastronomic and wellness tourism, which are increasingly sought after by global travelers. Meanwhile, Karimunjawa has attracted significant attention as a world-class marine tourism destination, known for its pristine beaches, snorkeling and diving activities, and authentic, sustainable island experiences.

Solo Raya, on the other hand, stands out as a strong cultural and heritage destination. Its royal palaces, Javanese traditions, performing arts, batik, local cuisine, and cultural events create a compelling appeal for buyers seeking cultural immersion experiences. The City of Semarang is equally attractive, offering a blend of historical tourism, the Old Town area, religious tourism, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) potential, supported by strong accessibility.

Participation in BBTF 2026 represents a strategic effort to introduce Central Java’s priority destinations in a more targeted manner to the international market. BBTF serves as an effective platform to connect Central Java’s tourism industry with international buyers who have extensive global distribution networks. Through this initiative, Central Java aims to expand its market reach, increase international tourist arrivals, and foster sustainable business partnerships.

Beyond promotional benefits, Central Java’s participation in BBTF 2026 also presents significant economic potential. Of the approximately 80 buyers engaged, around 20 percent—or 16 buyers—are projected to become active partners in marketing Central Java tourism packages.

If each buyer is able to bring an average of 100–250 international tourists per year, the additional number of tourist arrivals to Central Java is projected to reach between 1,600 and 4,000 visitors annually. With an average spending of IDR 15–20 million per visit, the potential economic impact is estimated to range from IDR 24 billion to IDR 80 billion per year.

These opportunities are further strengthened by global geopolitical dynamics and shifting travel trends, which increasingly encourage travelers and tourism industry players to seek destinations that are safe, sustainable, and offer authentic experiences. In this context, Indonesia—particularly Central Java—holds a strategic position as a destination rich in cultural heritage, natural beauty, and community-based tourism experiences.

Through the buyer network established during BBTF 2026, Central Java is well-positioned to capture these market opportunities and further strengthen its standing as one of Indonesia’s leading destinations on the global stage.

Central Java’s participation in BBTF 2026 reflects the Provincial Government’s strong commitment to continuously expanding the international tourism market, enhancing destination competitiveness, and driving sustainable regional economic growth through the tourism and creative economy sectors.
