Hiking Mount Ungaran, Mawar Basecamp Trailbase

Talking about Mount Ungaran must be familiar to Jawa Tengah travelers. The reason is, the mountain with a height of 2050 meters above sea level is one of the mountains that is suitable for beginners.

Mount Ungaran can be reached from many routes, such as the Medini route, the Gedong Songo route, and two routes that have been closed, namely the Curug Lawe route and the Nglimut route.

If you take the Medini route, either a motorbike or a car can reach the last village, called Promasan, but with rocky and perfunctory roads. Most beginner hikers usually use the Mawar Basecamp route because the path is better maintained and parking is safe.

It doesn't take a long time to travel from basecamp to the top. It usually takes about 7 to 12 hours for beginners to be able to scream at their peak.

Entrance Ticket and Parking Facility

After filling out the hiking form and paying a levy of around 15 thousand rupiahs per person. Hikers can directly enter the forest area to continue the journey.

From Mawar Basecamp to the first basecamp it is not too far because it only takes half an hour. During the trip, it was dominated by dense pine forests and mixed forests.

Hikers can continue the journey again for half an hour to arrive at a small river. Here, hikers can fill up water as supplies when climbing to the top of the peak later or just wash their hands and feet.

From a small river, the path passed by the next hiker will be more uphill and drain energy. Some of the climbs are very steep even if it's the rainy season can make hikers slip.

Some locations will have wet and muddy paths that become nests of leeches. During the rainy season, it is not surprising that many hikers are disturbed by this slimy animal. As a suggestion, bring a spray filled with saltwater or tobacco to repel these leeches.

Unique Swimming Pool, Only On Mount Ungaran

Until finally the hikers will arrive at the swimming pool post. As the name implies, this place does have a swimming pool facility with water sourced from Mount Ungaran. Not only that, there are shelters and residents' houses in the vicinity to use for shelter when it rains.

The next trip is only a wide rocky road because it is usually used for transporting coffee or wood products. During the trip, climbers will be treated to views of the coffee garden which is quite spacious and lush.

According to residents, from this post, you can go directly to the top of Ungaran. However, the path that is passed is not official and may have been covered by weeds.

After passing the coffee garden, the climbers will arrive at the border of the coffee garden and tea garden. The surrounding community calls it the T-junction because there are two paths, namely towards the top and Promasan Village.

This place during the day has a very beautiful view. The vast expanse of green tea gardens and wide stretches is quite refreshing for the mind.

Summit Attack Mount Ungaran

There are two options for climbers, climbers can continue the journey to the top of Ungaran directly or camp first in Promasan Village one night to fill the water or just enjoy the atmosphere.

If you decide to continue towards the top, it is advisable to take a short break at this T-junction to recharge.

From the fork to the top it takes about 3-6 hours depending on the length of time you take a break during the trip. The path that goes uphill and occasionally passes through fallen trees and large rocks is very exhausting.

When you arrive at the first small hill, hikers will be treated to a very wide view. You can see the small Promasan Village and the view that leads to Semarang Regency.

During the rainy season, you need to be extra careful because when you travel from the hill to the top you can be blocked by a big storm. Strong winds and fog can blind climbers to take the wrong path.

Some small roads are visible because residents usually use them to hunt or go to the other side of Mount Ungaran.

It takes at least 30 minutes to reach the top of Mount Ungaran. At its peak, there is a fairly spacious area with three monuments and one red and white flagpole.

When there are no obstacles from clouds or fog, you will see a magnificent view of Semarang, the Java Sea, and other mountains around Mount Ungaran.

Both sunrise and sunset have unimaginable beauty. That is why this mountain is still a favorite for hikers in Central Java. (Nico/ Contributor)
