Joglo Limasan At Mondokan, Sragen

For Javanese people, a house is an identity. This article invites you to set foot on the land of Tajug Loro at the end of Sragen, namely Mondokan, in the northwest of Sukowati, approximately 25 km from downtown Surakarta. Even though they are both Sragen, there is no other area as authentic as Mondokan. In various regions, you can still find a building style like this yet not in major. Even within the scope of Jawa Tengah, it is still difficult to find an equivalent area as epic as Mondokan.

Besides Jawa Tengah, East Java and Yogyakarta also mention joglo as a traditional house. Joglo itself is divided into several types, which will be found along the road Mondokan is Joglo Limas Sinom (Joglo Limasan but in Sinom, not pure Joglo Sinom which requires 36 pillars).

Joglo etymologically comes from the words Tajug (Roof) and Loro (Two). Tajug is a triangular-shaped roof that symbolizes the mountain as a high and sacred place, in addition to the tajug which has two right and left sides, the elements that must be fulfilled in a joglo house are Soko GuruCagak, or a pillar that functions as a support, the four pillars serve as directions or in all directions, some assume that the four pillars of the soko guru symbolize the Javanese calendar, namely pahingponwage, and legi, while kliwon is the queen in the middle.

There are several spatial elements of Omah Joglo, namely the pendopodalemgandhokpringgitan, middle senthong, left senthong and right senthong, pekiwangadri, and longkangan. As a place to live for the community, now the joglo is experiencing simplification in design and function, usually only containing an overhang (veranda), dalem (main room), middle senthong (a middle room which was used to store Goddes Sri or rice because the Javanese believe that their ancestors were Goddes Sri from heaven who came down to earth to bring fertility and a source of food), left senthong (left room) a place to store heirlooms, right senthong (right room as a bedroom), gandri (dining room), pawon (kitchen), and the most important elements and not to be missed are the lawang (door) and cendelo (window).

How? Interesting right? At first glance, you will not only get Instagrammable spots in this area but also the strong beauty of the joglo architecture. It is time for a cultural tour in Mondokan, Sragen.
