Sweet And Bitter Bawor Durian From Banyumas

Feelings are so varied. Loving and will always yearn. An ordinary love, just a love. A love with no power, that feeling quickly disappears easily. Once loved and then disappointed. Some hate it from the beginning and will never even meet. Yet, the most memorable one is a love that processes, grows, and always accompanies.

How do you feel about durian?

For Mr. Sarno Ahmad Darsono, durian is more than just love. He has known durian since childhood, processing and growing together. Sarno has often been to the durian garden with his father since childhood. Since his house environment in Kemranjen Banyumas indeed has a lot of durian trees. This made Sarno know what kind of good durian is like. Until finally Sarno found Bhineka Bawor Durian or often called Bawor Durian.

Bawor durian is the result of grafting from 20 types of local and foreign durian varieties. Initially, in 1996, Sarno mixed the montong orange durian with local durians such as kuningmas, sunan, otong, bluwuk, cinimang, oneng, kereng, kumbakarna, and petruk. The durian tree is divided into primary, secondary, and tertiary trees.

The montong orange durian is used as the primary tree for this grafting, by injuring some of its parts. There are 10 good quality tree shoots as secondary trees which will later be attached to the primary tree. After the secondary tree begins to attach to the primary tree which takes about four months, the secondary tree is injured again so that it can be grafted with tertiary tree shoots. The number of tree shoots that are grafted causes the primary tree to grow like a mangrove tree whose roots look a lot out of place.

In 2000, the grafted tree produced 30 to 40 different durians from the primary durian, the montong orange durian. Be the bawor durian we all know now. This durian has thin skin, thicker flesh, more tender, and more alcohol. The size is also large, can reach 12 kilograms, and even more.

The taste of bawor durian is sweet and bitter. The color of the flesh is yellow and orange. The more orange the color the more the alcohol content, the more bitter, mushy, and sweet. That kind of taste is often sought by connoisseurs of durian. They are willing to come all the way to enjoy bawor durian.

Currently, we can find bawor durian at Sarno's house directly, in Alasmalang Village RT 05/07 Kemranjen Banyumas. Sarno's house is now also the information and marketing center for bawor durian seeds and fruit. So, visitors can buy not only the fruit but also bawor durian seeds directly.

On weekends, especially during the durian season, Sarno's house is always full of visitors. If we go there, we can immediately enjoy bawor durian on the spot or we can take it home. Don't worry, it won't be difficult to bring durian for souvenirs. You will not be bothered with sharp durian skin. Durian will be packed in a plastic box. Eating directly is more exciting since the atmosphere of Sarno's house is so beautiful with lots of plants and a gazebo. Don't forget to invite your friends or family to enjoy bawor durian. A whole durian will be too much for personal so eat it together will be fun. (Kasih)
