UDAN DAWET TRADITION

The Udan Dawet tradition in Banyuanyar Village, Ampel District, is believed by residents to have existed for hundreds of years with the aim of asking for rain that brings blessings to the people of Banyuanyar. This tradition is carried out every Friday Pon on the fourth prey by making a feast containing dawet. Dawet refers to the whole concoction of cendol green jellies, usually made from aren sagoo or rice flour, coconut milk and liquid gula jawa (palm sugar syrup). Then, the dawet that has been prayed for is thrown into Sendang Mande Rejo.
