Pekalongan Batik Night Carnival 2023 Will Be On October 28

Pekalongan City is known as Batik City. Batik crafts have been produced since long ago and continue to grow. In 2014, Pekalongan City was the only city in Indonesia awarded as  UNESCO Creative City in the City of Crafts and Folk Arts category.

In celebrating the World Batik Day on October 2, the Pekalongan City Government will hold the Pekalongan Batik Night Carnival on October 28 2023.

Quoted from Instagram @ticpekalongan, Pekalongan Batik Night Carnival will be held at night with the Kawijayan Nagari theme. The carnival route starts from the Pekalongan Traffic Unit (Diponegoro St.) to Jetayu St. and finishes at the Pekalongan Batik Museum.

The Pekalongan City Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports Department also facilitates public to participate in this event. Registration is open from 1 – 30 September 2023.

Participants divided into five categories: SD/MI, SMP/MTS, SMA/MA, General, and Pekalongan City OPD. Participants can display creative costume works with sub-themes depicting the glory of Pekalongan City, including the history & legends of Pekalongan City, the maritime life of Pekalongan City, cultural and ethnic acculturation (Arab, Javanese, Chinese).

Creative costumes must use batik cloth (written/stamped batik) with typical Pekalongan patterns, such as Jlamprang, Buketan, 3 Negeri, Liris, and Benji. Participants can use other stuffs or lighting elements in costumes.
