Umbul Pelem, Swimming In Natural Water Springs

There are a lot of Umbul or natural springs in Klaten Regency. That is why the ‘spring city’ is the other name of this city. This time, we will talk about Umbul Pelem, located not far from Umbul Ponggok, to be exact located in Wunut Village, Tulung or 4,5 km away from Umbul Ponggok.

Actually, Umbul Pelem has been around since decades, but then re-open again in May 2018 after a huge renovation for a year.

“Back then, was only a small pond and was a cenil (watercress) field,” said Hardono, a BUMDes Sumber Kamulyan employee, Umbul Pelem manager.

After the renovation, Umbul Pelem become a 20 meters pool with 1,5 to 2 m depth and can accommodate hundred of people. There is also a kid pool with 50 cm depth. However, the small pond that became the forerunner of Umbul Pelem still exists and remained because the water spring come from this pond.

“It was a small pond back then and people use it for taking a bath,” he said. But since the re-opening, visitors can’t go to this pond.

Fresh sensation after bathing in the pool came from the water that came from natural water spring and without caproid. Besides, the water doesn’t make eyes sore though swimming for a long time. Then, the water in the pool always flowing so that feels like the water regularly changed.

“Every evening till night, the pool is always drained so that the water changes and is clean,” said Hartono.

This pool makes Umbul Pelem different from other Umbul, plus this pool is the attraction poin for visitors who want to feel the freshness of bathing in natural springs. Other facilities besides the pools, there are gazebos, tire rentals, food stalls, prayer rooms, changing rooms, toilets, and a large parking area.

Since the reopening after renovation, Umbul Pelem has become a mainstay destination in Tulung District. Every day, nearly 300 people come to this place. This number absolutely will increase when it comes to weekend on holiday season. Hardono also explained that most of the visitors came from villages around Umbul Pelem, but there are also visitors from Solo, Boyolali, to Yogyakarta.

The easy access road to Umbul Pelem is one of the reasons why this place is always crowded with visitors. Umbul Ponggok is right on the side of Janti-Wunut Village main road. Go to Tegalgondo t-junction which is on the road of Solo-Yogyakarta, if you are coming drom Solo or Yogyakarta. If you are coming from Solo, the t-junction is on your right, 550 meters away after Welcoming Monument in Klaten Regency.

From the t-junction, go to the west, and drive through Tegalgondo-Janti road for 6,5 Km to Umbul Pelem. After Janti t-junction, there will be Welcoming Monument in Wunut Village, where your destination is just in a minute to go. Umbul Pelem is on your left, after Umbul Manten.

Umbul Pelem opens every day, 6 AM to 5 PM. The admission price is 5,000 IDR, and parking fee is 3,000 IDR for motorcycles and 5,000 IDR for cars. If you are looking for a really fresh water, you can come as early as possible. But if you are looking for a calm ambience, you can go in late afternoon.
