KAUMAN GREAT MOSQUE

The mosque was built by an Arab religious leader of great descent named Maulana Ibn Abdul Salim or known as Kiai Pandan Arang. The mosque is located around Johar Market. Historically, this mosque was burnt down because of a lightning strike in 1885, but it was rebuilt with the help of the Assistant Resident of Semarang Regent GI Blume and Raden Tumenggung Cokrodipuro which was finally completed in 1889. The architecture of the mosque is very unique especially on the three-layered roof.
