It is named Candi Merak because there are many peacock nests around the temple. This temple features geometric and plant motifs in its decorations. The plant motif typically consists of ornamental depictions of plants found on the temple. This motif can be seen in temple reliefs in the form of lotus flowers, referred to as Purnakalasa, symbolizing happiness and good fortune.
