Tomb of Ki Ageng Henis

Ki Ageng Henis was the son of Ki Ageng Selo, a descendant of Prabu Brawijaya V, the King of Majapahit. He had a son named Ki Ageng Pemanahan and a grandson named Sutawijaya, also known as Mas Ngabehi Loring Pasar, who became the founder of the Mataram Kingdom (Islamic) in Alas Mentaok.

Ki Ageng Henis played a significant role in defeating Arya Panangsang, the Duke of Jipang Panolan and an enemy of the Pajang Kingdom. As a reward, Sultan Hadiwijaya, King of Pajang, granted him perdikan land, which is now known as Laweyan Village. Because of this, Ki Ageng Henis is regarded as one of the key figures in the establishment of Laweyan.

During his lifetime, Ki Ageng Henis built the Laweyan Mosque, which still stands today. He also initiated batik production in Laweyan, marked by the growth of the Laweyan Market. His residence is believed to have been located north of the market. After his death, Ki Ageng Henis was buried at Astana Laweyan, located to the west of the Laweyan Mosque.
