MANTU POCI

Mantu Poci is one of the unique traditions of Tegal City. Mantu poci comes from two words, mantu and poci. pottery for brewing coffee, tea, etc. It is simply interpreted as a "marriage" between a pair of teapots. The marriage of a pair of teapots is a symbol of the marriage of a human pair. This tradition is held by a husband and wife hoping to get offspring. The hope is strived by holding a public wedding ceremony. A pair of teapots wedding ceremony is the same as a wedding ceremony in general, except the bride and groom are replaced with a pair of teapots. The mantu poci tradition is only carried out in several areas in Tegal City, especially in coastal areas such as Muarareja, Cabawan, Kerandon, Tegalsari, Margadana, and Tunon. However, along with the current times and technology, it is rare to find people who hold the tradition of the mantu poci nowadays. Apart from being a hope that the husband and wife will get offspring soon, the mantu poci also aims to make the organizers feel like parents who have succeeded in raising their son and daughter, then released with a big party by inviting relatives.
