MOUNTAIN ALMS
The people of Lencoh Village at the foot of Mount Merapi carry out the Alms every new year's eve 1 Suro (Javanese calendar). The tradition was held in Joglo I, Lencoh Village, Selo District. The procession started early in the morning with a cultural carnival by parading the Mahesa (buffalo) to be slaughtered. In the evening, it begins with a procession of buffalo head carnival which will be floated on top of Mount Merapi. This tradition aims to invoke safety from God Almighty for the people under Mount Merapi.
