Duanwu Jie (meaning: rowing boat) or Pek Cun festival is a commemoration of sea alms done by Chinese people in Pekalongan to commemorate the death of Minister Qu Yuan, a state minister loved by the people. The festival is celebrated annually on 5th of the 5th month in Lunar calendar. The lunar or Chinese calendar started in Zhou dynasty and has been used for more than 2300 years now. Pek Cun tradition in Pekalongan is done by burning replicas of ships and offerings then float them to the sea as a symbol of gratitude and a wish to get abundant blessings. The celebration of Pek Cun is also jazzed up by many art/cultural attractions, Barongsay and Lion as well as egg upholding competition
