SEKATEN

Sekaten is an official ceremony held for seven days to celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. According to the local people, Sekaten was originated from the word Syahadatain. For six days, since the sixth until the eleventh day of Mulud month (the month of Prophet Muhammad's birthday in Javanese calendar). Both of Gamelan (Javanese music instrument) are played (Javanese: beat) to signal the beginning of Sekaten ceremony. Finally, on the seventh day the Sekaten ceremony is closed by bringing out the Gunungan Mulud.
