The 14th Solo Batik Carnival Grand Carnival Parade was held on Saturday afternoon (8/7/2023). SBC 14 begins with the opening on Jl, Bhayangkara which is filled with music and dance performances. Do not miss the appearance of Prince Soengenep from Madura. The route for the 14th SBC event is Bhayangkara St. – Sriwedari Stadium – Slamet Riyadi St. – Jendral Sudirman St. and finish at Surakarta City Hall.

With the theme Hastha Sawanda, SBC 14 presented 4 marches, namely Reog Kendang, Seblang Olehsari, Menak Rengganis Widaninggar Dance, and Lembu Sura. Quoted from tourismsolo.surakarta.go.id, Hastha Sawanda are eight normative provisions that collaborate to become a single unit for a dancer to be able to perform a dance that can hypnotize the audience.

The Hastha Sawanda concept first appeared in 1950 at a dance workshop attended by the Surakarta Cultural Association's dance expert council (Sumargono, 2001). In the Indonesian Dance Encyclopedia, it is explained that Hastha Sawanda is a term in Javanese (Surakarta) dance, consisting of the word Hastha which means eight, and Sawanda which consists of the elements (a) pacak, (b) pancat, (c) ulat, (d) wiled , (e) luwes, (f) lulut, (g) wirama, and (h) gendhing. (Depdikbud Jakarta, 1985 in Elvandari, 2016).

Murdiyati (2009) explains the meaning of each of these elements. Pacak is related to the expression of motion according to the character of the role, then Pancat describes the continuity in carrying out the motion. The next element is Lulut which means living the movement in a flowing way, then Luwes describes the harmonious and harmonious nature of the dancers in living the movement. The Ulat element means eye gaze related to facial expressions and character. The creativity of the dancers in moving is called Wiled. The element of Wirama regulates the speed, tempo, and pressure of the movement. Lastly is the Gendhing element which is related to understanding music/instruments.

That is the meaning of every element of this year's SBC theme, namely Hastha Sawanda. Wait for the Solo Batik Carnival next year! (Admin)
