Pekalongan has nominated by UNESCO as a Creative City in the Craft and Folk Arts category on December 1, 2014. This city on the north coast of Jawa Tengah is famous for its batik. As the City of Batik, Pekalongan has many batik artisans scattered in several places, one of which is in Kampoeng Batik Kauman. The location is very strategic, in downtown Pekalongan, not far from the main square.

ANCIENT VILLAGE IN THE CITY CENTER

Reporting from tourism.pekalongankota.go.id, Kampoeng Kauman is the first village in the Pekalongan area because here there are many ancient buildings, such as the Jami Mosque which was founded in 1852. Apart from that, there are also old houses of the batik craftsmen. One of the famous architectural styles is Omah Lawang Songo or the Nine Door House. Quoted from kotomono.co, Omah Lawang Songo is called because this house has 9 doors, namely 3 front, 3 central, 2 central right and left sides, and 1 door at the back. This typical house that developed in the 19th century combines cross-cultural architectural concepts, namely Javanese, Arabic, European and Chinese cultures. BATIK EDUCATION TOURISM VILLAGE
For tens of years, the people of Kauman have been involved in the world of batik, especially making batik and canting. Batik that is developing in this area is Jlamprang batik, a blend of Arabic and Indian, and encim batik, which is influenced by China. In 2007, Kampung Kauman was designated as Kampoeng Batik Kauman. In its development, in 2018 Omah Kreatif was inaugurated which was initiated by the Kampoeng Batik Kauman Association (PKBK). Omah Kreatif is a forum for developing the creativity of batik artisans and sellers complete with batik workshops and showrooms. This is the right location for anyone who wants to know and learn about Batik. Not only that, PKBK continues to be creative by holding the annual Kauman Batik Art Festival (KBAF) event every October in order to celebrate National Batik Day. At KBAF 2021, PKBK introduced the Pakem Kaumanan Batik Sarong Motif. The Pakem Kaumanan Batik Sarong motif is a blend of various motifs, namely Buketan (European motifs), Parang (Royal / Kraton motifs), Jlamprang (Arabic and Indian motifs), and Benji (Chinese motifs).

A VILLAGE WITH MODERN INNOVATIONS
The modern atmosphere can also be found in this ancient village. When crossing the main alley after the gate that reads Kampoeng Batik Kauman, tourists will find a wall drawn and painted in full color. Of course, this is an instagrammable photo spot.
