JANGKRIK RICE

There is a typical culinary dish from Kudus which has a unique name, namely Jangkrik Rice. 'Jangkrik' means cricket. Unlike its name, Jangkrik Rice is a dish with a special filling, rice with mutton or buffalo meat, tofu, and coconut milk sauce. The meat is tender and well-marinated. Usually, Jangkrik Rice is distributed on 10 Muharram in the Islamic calendar for free. This tradition is still going on today. Quoted from solopos.com, in the past, Kiai Telingsing with Sunan Kudus and other saints gathered at the tajug' of the Tower of the Kudus Mosque. At that time, Sunan Kudus' wife cooked a very delicious menu. It was so delicious until someone said, "jangkrik! masakan opo iki kok enake pol" which means "cricket! what kind of food is this? delicious."
