NDORENG RICE

Ndoreng rice a.k.a sego ndoreng is a special dish from Demak that has existed since Demak Bintoro Kingdom. At a glance, sego ndoreng looks like mixed vegetables a.k.a pecel. But it's different in the variation of the vegetables, the way it cooked and served.  Sego ndoreng consists of steamed rice with some vegetables such as petai cina, kembang turi, jenthut, lamtoro's leaves, and cassava's leaves. All of the vegetables are boiled and drained. Next, add the peanut sauce cooked with the wood-based stove on top of the un-so-popular vegetables.  Last, sprinkle with uyah goreng or serundeng which is made from seasoned grated coconut. Sego ndoreng is served in a pincukan (banana leaves or teak leaves shaped like a bowl). It tastes extraordinary—a mix of savory, salty, spicy, and sweet flavors.
