Semarang is the capital city of Central Java province. Geographically, Semarang is located between 6° 50'-7°10' South latitude and 109° line 35'-110° 50' East longitude with temperatures ranging from 20°-35° Celsius. Semarang is known for its heterogeneous population consists of several ethnic such as Javanese, Chinese, and Arabic. Despite of its heterogeneous society, for centuries people have been living a peacefull life at this city. The establishment of Semarang city was begun when Ki Agen Pandan Arang was chosen as the first Regent of Semarang by Demak Kingdom. After his death, Demak KingdomchosePandanArang II on May 2, 1547, which was then agreed as the birthday of Semarang. Semarang had grown rapidly as a trading port at the reign of Demak Kingdom. In the 16th century, Portuguese arrived and built settlements around Berok River, near Semarang Lama. The Dutch landed and occupied the Old City and built De Vijfhoek fort in the city when Semarang were fell under the rule of Pajang and Mataram Kingdom.
