11 Jawa Tengah Featured Events 2022

Jawa Tengah Government has re-launched the 2022 tourism calendar which can be downloaded here. From 197 events compiled until the end of 2021, there are 11 featured events that scheduled in national tourism calendar of Kemenparekraf RI. These events are not only hosted by local government, but also by local community or cultural institutions and others.

These are the full list of 11 Jawa tengah featured events in 2022:

SOLO MENARI (April 29, 2022) – SURAKARTA

This event is intended to celebrate Hari Tari Dunia or World Dance Day which is commemorated every April 29 and presents traditional Jawa dance that is unique, full of philosophy, and adiluhung or valuable.

 

SEMARANG NIGHT CARNIVAL (May 2022) – SEMARANG

Semarang night Carnivals spoiled the people by a parade of unique, gorgeous costume creations performed by hundreds of participants. SNC held in the early May coincided with the 475th anniversary of Semarang. Also, there will be traditional art performances of local culture.

 

INTERNATIONAL MASK FESTIVAL (June, 17-18 2022) – SURAKARTA

International Mask Festival is an annual event on international level, that brings the concept of mask art performance and mask exhibition. IMF has been held since 2014.

 

MORO BOROBUDUR (July) – KABUPATEN MAGELANG

This event is a Contemporary Music Arts Festival which has been held since 2020. Moro Borobudur is a Javanese language which means ‘come to Borobudur’ and invite the tourist to enjoy the art and traditions around Borobudur and the allure of traditional music. With Moro Borobudur event, proves that the tourism around Borobudur is still alive despite the COVID-19 outbreak.

 

SOLO KERONCONG FESTIVAL (July 16-17, 2022) – SURAKARTA

Solo Keroncong Festival is an event to keep the existence of keroncong music alive in Indonesia by bringing in the country's great musicians.

 

FESTIVAL ARAK-ARAKAN CHENG HO (July 27-28, 2022) – SEMARANG

This festival is a celebration dedicated to Admiral Cheng Ho arrival in Semarang 617 years ago. Festival Arak-arakan Cheng Ho begins with carnival where people carrying the God statue from Tay Kak Sie Temple in Chinatown to Sam Poo Kong Temple in Gedong Batu. Besides carnival, there will be traditional art performances with a touch of Javanese and Chinese cultures that become one.

 

DIENG CULTURE FESTIVAL (August 26-28, 2022) -KABUPATEN BANJARNEGARA

A magnificent festival that combines natural beauty and the uniqe culture and traditions of the Dieng Plateau. Dieng Culture Festival or Festival Dieng will feature jazz music above the clouds in the midst of cold temperatures, a variety of traditional arts, and the climax is the ritual of shaving the dreads of the Anak Gembel Dieng.

 

FESTIVAL GEDONGSONGO (September) – KABUPATEN SEMARANG

This festival takes place in Semarang regency where they promote tourism, culture, culinary, hotel, homestay, and the creative economy. Regional arts performances also enliven the event. At the peak of the event was the 'resik-resik Candi Gedongsongo' or cleaning the temple as an expression of gratitude to God Almighty and hope that the people would be given safety and a better life.

 

FESTIVAL PAYUNG INDONESIA (September 2-4, 2022)

An annual festival from 2014 by Mataya Arts & Heritage, Festival Payung Indonesia collaborate with traditional umbrella craftsmen, creative communities, traditional art preserver, photographer, fashion designer, artist, and others.

 

SOLO INTERNATIONAL PERFORMING ARTS (September 8-10, 2022) – SURAKARTA

Solo International Performing Arts or SIPA is a masterpiece of performing arts including music, dance, drama, etc. This spectacular event was attended by various artist from the country and abroad. The first performance of SIPA began to held in 2013 at Fort Vastenburg.

 

FESTIVAL KOTA LAMA (September 15-25, 2022) – SEMARANG

If you miss the ambience of old town, you can go to Festival Kota Lama or Old Town Festival that held since 2012. Visitor can enjoy the nostalgic feels of old town from Pasar Sentiling with legendary culinary and antique car exhibition. Beside those, there is an Old City Tour and educational facility fir kids if they want to learn about the Old City. This time, Festival Kota Lama will be enlivened by wayang performances, gamelan, music, some guest stars and fashion show, also bazaars.
